Lamp Powered Projector with Android

Walking the booths at CES in Las Vegas can sometimes throw up some surprises. We popped in to visit Optoma, last year we tested their amazing short throw projector and wanted to see what was new in their world.

We didn’t expect what happened next.

A lampshade was hanging from the ceiling and from there was a projection of a recipe on the table. Awesome, a projector that runs off a globe and somehow displays content, maybe wirelessly from another device.

Leo Lai, Associate Vice President of R&D, came to have a chat and promptly blew my mind. We were correct in thinking it was all the above however the projected content was coming from the projector itself… it was running Android. It also had a camera to read QR codes and launch recipes which could be waved through thanks to a motion sensor.

So, if that isn’t impressive then we don’t know what is. The idea of this above the kitchen bench reading QR codes on recipe books and launching instructions etc amazes me and for now, we can only dream.

Right before we posted this article it was mentioned in the EFTM office that it is also not a light bulb… you can’t have everything!

EFTM’s coverage of CES 2016 is made possible with support from Intel, Hisense, Sony, Samsung, LG and Alcatel One Touch
