After putting almost all its eggs in the Dick Smith retail basket, Oppo was left pretty shattered as Dick Smith went under and their best chance at Aussie success floundered. Today they’ve started the turn-around of fortunes announcing a deal with Optus to sell the F1 smartphone online and in-stores.
The F1 is the first in a new series of devices from Oppo which features a low-cost, but also high quality with a metallic build which is not something you’ll normally find at this price point.
It’s got a 13 megapixel rear camera and 8 megapixel front with a low f-stop allowing for better light and quality from comparable megapixel counts on low-cost phones.
This is not an entirely new device. The F1 has been available online, with a dual-sim slot. The Optus stocked Oppo F1 will be locked to Optus and also not allow for Dual SIM usage – instead you can use the second slot for MicroSD storage expansion.
With a 5 inch display, and at $199 – it’s likely to do very well in the prepaid market for Optus – and Oppo.
