Intel lighting up Sydney Harbour with 100 Drones

After setting a Guinness World Record in Germany last December the 100 Drones Intel have got flying together in a light show will be coming to Sydney next week for the Vivid light festival.

Never have there been more drones flying simultaneously which is why Intel’s Drone 100 was awarded the Guinness record, but it’s the impressive show that captured the imagination of many and that show fits perfectly with Sydney’s Vivid festival and will be on show in Sydney for five nights.

Starting June 8 through to the 12th the 100 drones with lights glaring will perform their choreographed routine over Sydney Harbour accompanied by the Sydney Youth Orchestra.

This is something special for Sydney as it’s the first time a live audience will see the drones in action, plus – and perhaps critically for the team – it’s the first time they’ve “performed” over water.

With the sails of the Opera House as their backdrop the 100 drones will put on a 7 minute show at 7.55pm each night performing to Beethoven’s Fifth.

“With drones quickly emerging as an important computing platform of the future, Drone 100 exemplifies what it means to reinvent experiences with new technology,” said Anil Nanduri, Intel’s general manager of unmanned aviation systems for its Perceptual Computing Group. “Drone 100 will capture the imagination of all who see it. Through this experience, we hope to inspire the imagination of Vivid Sydney festival goers and highlight the future potential of drone technology.”

You’re going to have to be lucky to see it though, with Intel releasing a limited number of tickets for the five performances in the VIP Viewing area on the eastern side of the Opera House overlooking Farm Cove.

For your chance, head over to the Facebook page of the Intel’s Drone 100.

Drone 100 is weather dependent and will not go ahead in the event of rain, storms or high winds. Keep an eye on Intel’s Drone 100 Facebook event page for updates.
