Frustrated by broken charging cables? Belkin adds Kevlar for strength

Belkin today announced a new “DuraTek” range of cables created in collaboration with DuPont with Kevlar built-in for much greater durability.

While they look similar to the existing “Mixit” range with the fabric-like outside they are actually much more flexible and less rigid.

On the inside Kevlar fibre strands are built-in to protect the wires inside from damage.  Now while Kevlar is used for bullet resistant helmets and vests, don’t be wrapping yourself in cables expecting that kind of protection.

The outside is still a double-braided nylon sleeve with super flexible insulation all adding to the damage minimisation.

“With the growing dependence upon mobile devices, a steadfast charging option that can keep up with our busy lifestyles is becoming a necessity for Australian consumers. We are thrilled to be working with DuPont to create even more durable, reliable charging options for Australian consumers” said Josh Caulfield, Head of Product Management ANZ, Belkin.

“For more than two decades, DuPont™ Kevlar® fiber has brought lightweight, flexible strength and temperature resistance to electro-mechanical cables for severe loads and in harsh environments, from the bottom of the ocean to the surface of Mars.  We are pleased to be working with the global leader, Belkin, to now bring the Kevlar® advantage to consumers in fine gauge cables for electronic devices,” said Lynne Chappel, global brand leader, DuPont.

They are available of course in all the Apple colours (Black, Gold, Rose-Gold and Silver) allowing you to get some style at the same time as resilience.

You’ll find the Mixit DuraTek Lightning to USB cables for $39.95 at JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys and Myer.
