Las Vegas is a non stop city, the place where dreams come true or dreams are destroyed. It’s known for big parties, massive nights out, benders and the quote “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”. Not this time.
Last night in Vegas something pretty damn cool happened. A Formula E race car, the BMW i8 Safety Car and the new Jaguar i-Type cruised down the Las Vegas strip in relative silence.
Almost three years after the Spark-Renault SRT_01E made its debut in Las Vegas, all 20 Formula E drivers and 10 sim racers will test their skills on a bespoke track, incorporating the famous Las Vegas Strip, for the opportunity to win a share of $1 million – the biggest prize in eSports racing history.
It’s the first time we have seen this happen and it won’t be the last. Formula E is running a competition in Las Vegas at the moment racing in a virtual e-Race in Las Vegas. 20 Formula E racers and 10 sim racers will battle it out for a share in $1 million.
The ground-breaking Visa Vegas eRace is taking place at The Venetian Hotel as part of Sports Business Innovation at 16:00 (PST) on the 50th edition of CES on Saturday.
Living in Sydney his entire life, Geoff has always had a close eye on technology. Through school and immediately after, tech held his focus. Attending University later in life, Geoff began his IT career immediately after leaving high school and has been in the industry ever since. In his spare time he launched a YouTube channel focused on consumer tech that had millions of views. This led to work on community radio talking tech every week and has now stepped him into the studios of 2GB / 4BC every Saturday helping people with tech problems and reviewing the latest gadgets.
When Geoff is looking away from the screen he can be found holding a glass of red wine, spending time with friends and/or watching the Formula 1.
