Faraday Future finally fight with fire

Faraday Future were at CES last year with a rolling shell of a supercar that didn’t work or do anything. In 2017 they have introduced a real car that they say will drive out on the street in 2018.

The FF 91 is the catchy name next to this interestingly designed electric car. It is aiming sights on the Tesla market in hopes to steal buyers. A few things to note about the FF 91:

Speed: Tesla is well known for their Insane and Ludicrous modes with the latter capable of driving a Tesla P100D from 0-100km/h in 2.6 seconds. The Faraday Future FF 91 is claimed to be capable of doing the same 0-100km/h in 2.39 seconds, faster but that doesn’t make the Tesla slow.

Battery: As in the Tesla Model S type, the biggest battery variation is the 100, the FF 91 runs a 130-kWh battery, this translates to more usable power but more importantly, more potential range. The FF 91 claims to be able to run 608km on a single charge while the highest Model S from Tesla, the 100D, will achieve 506km.

Autonomy: Tesla has been working on autonomy in many ways from the beginning. With Auto Pilot a functioning and available feature in Tesla today the FF 91 needed to compete, and they are. The FF 91 has 10 cameras, 13 radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and one retractable LIDAR scanner, Faraday Future says this is the most comprehensive sensor system in any car. We can only wait to see what this means compared to Tesla at the time of release.

Connectivity: Faraday Future made a big deal out of the connectivity features in the FF 91. It has a bluetooth “key”, runs a wifi hotspot, knows who you are as you approach, orders your pizza and calls your mother. It has a lot of kit.

Overall: The FF 91 can be preordered today if you live in the US. The FF 91 will cost you $160,000 and a $5,000 deposit secures your place. It isn’t affordable to many, it wont arrive until 2018 and it looks pretty ugly. For that sort of coin you could do a lot better.
