LG Debuts 4K Blu Ray Player at CES

With 4K TVs the standard today and movies being released all the time on Blu Ray 4K disc, LG have been late to the party providing a player for those very discs.  That changes this year as LG launches its LG UP970 Ultra HD Blu-Ray player.

Their unique selling point will be support for Dolby Vision which will enhance the HDR display of Dolby Vision enabled movie titles, and while that’s a great feature the critical moment is when local pricing is announced.

With Samsung’s 4K player now down to $298 (at JB HiFi) from its $599 launch price, this thing will need to be competitive.

$300 is the number and it has to be lower.

Dolby Vision support does not come out of the box, it will come through a firmware update later this year.

“The LG UP970 Dolby Vision-capable Ultra HD Blu-ray player is an excellent example of our commitment to offering an amazing home HDR viewing experience to our customers,” said Brian Kwon, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “We are proud to have an innovation partner such as Dolby to enhance our OLED and Super UHD TVs with their superior technology.”

Aussie pricing and availability should come early in the year we expect.
