Samsung to partner with Legacy Esports as popularity in Australia surges

Samsung has today announced a new partnership with Legacy Esports which will see the tech giant supply high level gaming monitors to Legacy’s players in the hopes of gaining “a competitive edge” across a variety of different gaming platforms.

Games like League of Legends, CS:GO, Rocket League, and Overwatch have over the past decade become games that are professionally played by teams such as Legacy. The rise of Esports in Australia has been well received, with Hoyts Cinemas building theatres for Esports use and Fox committing to broadcasting events via its E-League competition.

Legacy Esports are already regarded as one of the most successful Australian Esports teams to date, with its players competing in the Oceanic Pro League (OPL) and making finals appearances year after year. The team is best known for its League of Legends team, which has historically achieved regular top three inclusions at major events.

Matt Nelson, Business Unit Manager – Samsung Brand Memory expressed his excitement about the partnership and the rise of professional video game playing in Australia “Following the International Olympic Committee’s recent acknowledgement of esports, we’re seeing an evolution in how people define sport in the 21st century”.

“The rising popularity of esports in Australia has been incredible to watch, and we can’t wait to go on the journey with Legacy’s team this year. With the addition of Samsung’s leading SSDs and gaming monitors to their setup, we can’t wait to see how they use our technology to their advantage”.

The news of Samsung’s partnership with the team comes not a year after the Adelaide Crows announced its acquisition of the Legacy gaming brand, becoming the first professional sports team to do so.

Milestone after milestone for Esports in Australia.
