Meet Daisy, Apple’s robot ripping apart 200 iPhones an hour

Forget Liam, here comes Daisy because women are just better than men right? Apple has introduced a brand new robot to their eco arsenal with “Daisy” being capable of pulling apart 200 iPhones an hour!

Apple is trying to encourage more recycling and reuse through their “Give Back” program which rewards the return of old iPhones with Apple Store credit

“At Apple, we’re constantly working toward smart solutions to address climate change and conserve our planet’s precious resources,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives. “In recognition of Earth Day, we are making it as simple as possible for our customers to recycle devices and do something good for the planet through Apple GiveBack. We’re also thrilled to introduce Daisy to the world, as she represents what’s possible when innovation and conservation meet.”

To further encourage the program, for the rest of April Apple is making donations to Conservation International for each device returned.

The question often remains – what do we do with returned phones? Enter Apple’s new disassembly robot “Daisy” – she can pull apart 200 iPhones per hour, removing components, sorting them all so that the materials inside, including precious metals can be recovered with ease.

Today’s news, ahead of “Earth Hour” comes just a week after Apple announced it had acheived a 100% renewable energy target for all their global facilities.
