At a recent event in Sydney, Victorinox took the wraps off a range of new Swiss Army Knives, watches and luggage. While the beautiful new range of knives are beautiful and come in sizes of 82 features to a few, we were most captured by the backpacks.

The new backpacks from Victorinox look like the sort of trusty bag that Sylvester Stallone had in the movie Cliffhanger, or at least needed. The Altmont Active backpacks feature gear loops, daisy chains and cord systems which secure items such as shoes and helmets to the exterior of the pack. This means that those preparing for a mountain climb or outdoor adventure can easily attach all their gear.

We opened the bag to take a look at the huge amount of pockets, carefully and thoughtfully placed in locations that make it all really interesting. Every design element has a purpose. It is so similar to the Swiss Army Knife when you think of it is as a tool not just a bag.

A metal slider on the shoulder straps has a surprising double function – it can be used to adjust the straps as well as to open bottles. And you can enjoy maximum comfort, even during extended wear. This is thanks to the compression-moulded back panels and shoulder straps, combined with load lifter pulls and sternum straps. The bag also has straps for securing the bag around your waist and on your shoulders but the clip for around the waist actually doubles as a whistle. Seriously smart little features in a backpack.
