Check out this crazy idea – let’s build a caravan out of LEGO! Sure, we’ve all mucked around with blocks to build something, but we’re talking life size here!

It’s on-show at the 50th Queensland Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow this week.

Having taken 10 weeks, 500 man-hours, and 280,000 LEGO bricks – the team of 16 LEGO nerds built the 2.2meter tall five meter long structure.

It’s modelled off a 1973 Viscount Royal, which at the time was Australia’s largest manufacturer.

Caravanning Queensland General Manager Jason Plant seems pretty proud of it all “The caravan is fully equipped with a double bed, wardrobe, sink, stove, refrigerator, dinette, cupboards with sliding drawers and other features typical of a 1970’s caravan all made out of LEGO bricks,” Mr Plant said.

“It’s been amazing to see the design, planning and building phase all come together. We can’t believe it’s actually happened!”

Avid caravanner and head Brick Builder, Ben Craig, said he has loved LEGO for as long as he can remember and as a child, often dreamed of what it would be like to build a habitable space out of LEGO bricks.

“I’ve worked on a few largescale builds over the years but nothing involving more than 25,000 bricks or larger than two meters in length so to move to a project of this size has been very exciting,”
he said.
