Virgin Australia launches in-flight WiFi on International Flights

After almost six months of testing and trial services, Virgin Australia’s in-flight WiFi is now available on all their US flights.

Remarkably, thanks to their alliance with American carrier Delta Airlines, they become the first trans-pacific carrier to offer WiFi on all alliance aircraft and with Qantas in seemingly no great rush to introduce it on their fleet they are lengths ahead.

Virgin Australia have five Boeing 777 aircraft, all fitted out with new Satellite technology to provide the in-flight connectivity. The final aircraft underwent its fitting in Brisbane last month.

Rob Sharp from Virgin Australia said: “Most of us use our phones on a daily – if not hourly basis – meaning it can be incredibly disruptive to have extended periods of time when you can’t connect with friends, family, colleagues, or what’s going on in the world. We’re proud to be the leader in providing Australians with greater inflight connectivity on international flights.”

WiFi connectivity will cost $8.99 for a single hour, or $19.99 for an entire flight.

Domestically, 10 Virgin 737’s are now WiFi internet connected with 75% of the fleet to be completed in the next six months, while the Airbus fleet domestically will be fitted out in early 2019.
