Hot on the heels of the launches of the Colorado SportsCat and Chevrolet Silverado, HSV has just announced how much the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS will set you back. Like the Silverado, HSV is converting the US-made Camaro for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

The direct competitor to Ford’s enormously successful Mustang is powered by a 6.2L V8 engine combined with an 8-speed, automatic transmission with paddle shifters. It will pump out 339kW of power and 617Nm of torque.

Stopping power comes via light-weight, track ready Brembo front & rear performance brakes with fixed callipers. The exterior features High Intensity Discharge headlamps and 20’’ 5-split alloys wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tyres. At the rear sits a spoiler and dual exhaust.

The interior benefits from some premium additions including power-adjustable heated and ventilated leather-trimmed front sports bucket seats and a heated, 8” digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, power sunroof and leather-wrapped, flat-bottom sports-profile steering wheel.

Standard kit includes dual-zone automatic climate control, a 9-speaker Bose premium audio system and 24 colour interior ambient lighting. For added fun there are various driver modes including Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice and Track.

HSV’s Managing Director, Tim Jackson says “This project has been over three years in the making and involved millions of dollars of investment in product development, testing and validation. We set out with the goal of retaining the integrity of the left-hand-drive vehicle through the adoption of extensive engineering, development, and manufacturing processes. We are proud to say we believe we have achieved our goal.”

So to the elephant in the room. The official RRP for the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS will be $85,990 with only 550 available for the first model year. That will end up being around $90,000 you’d assume after on-roads, about $15,000 more than a fully optioned Mustang.

Said Jackson, “Our business model has always been to provide a niche offering with strong connection and support to our customers and, with just 550 available in our first Model Year, we are excited to get the product in customers’ hands.”

The manufacture of the Chevrolet Camaro will kick off at HSV’s new production facility in Clayton South, Victoria, this month. Great for Aussie jobs!
