D-Link takes on Arlo with the Omna Wire-Free indoor/outdoor Surveillance Kit

The home security market has boomed in recent years as the products have gotten better and the ease of install made simple. Enter D-Link with their latest product set to shake things up further.

D-Link is not unfamiliar with this market, their camera technology has been exceptional for some time, with 180 degree field of view indoor cameras, ceiling mounted surveillance cameras and a whole range more.

The trend however in mass retail is for people to walk in, grab a product and expect to walk home for an easy setup.

Cables for power, let alone for internet access are a huge barrier there for simplicity, so the new Omna Wire-Free from D-Link hits that market perfectly, right alongside market-leader Arlo as well as Uniden, Swann and others.

Omna’s 2 camera kit comes with a base station which connects to your home network and will set you back $799.95. That’s mid way between the Arlo Pro 2 two camera pack and the latest Arlo Ultra two pack so the price is spot on for competitiveness.

D-Link’s Aussie Managing Director Graeme Reardon said, “Our new Omna Wire-Free Surveillance Kit gives users complete flexibility to keep an eye on the things that matter most, both inside or outside of your home, no matter the weather. There are no wires to run, and with high-power, rechargeable batteries powering each weather and dust-resistant camera, you’ll never have to worry about running ugly network cabling throughout your home, or be restricted to installing cameras close to a power outlet again. It also sports advanced features including Full HD 1080p video capture, combined with options to record footage to a locally connected microSD Card or USB Hard Drive, or to the mydlink™ cloud recording service, as well as crisp and clear two-way audio. In short Omna Wire-Free provides homes or businesses an easy choice to step up to the next level of smart surveillance solutions.”

Google assistant and Amazon Alexa support are built in so you can “see” your cameras on a smart screen and they are easily installed as expected.

There’s MicroSD and USB Hard Drive support on the base station for recordings, as well as Cloud options on a subscription basis.

We’ll have a full review of the new Omna Wire-Free Surveillance Kit here at EFTM soon.
