In yet another sign of the impending rise of EV cars, MINI has today announced the new MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid. You can experience it now in showrooms and prices will start from $57,200.
MINI Australia Boss Brett Waudby said, “The MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid is the first step in what will be an exciting journey into the world of MINI future mobility,”
“With performance on-par to the famous Countryman Cooper S but even greater efficiency, thanks to its plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the Countryman Plug-In Hybrid offers exceptional all-round performance, versatility and economy,”
Now available to experience in showrooms, the MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid will be priced from $57,200*.
The system provides up to 40km of electric only driving. The electric motor produces 65kW/165Nm with power being sent to the rear wheels.
The petrol 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine has outputs of 100kW and 220N. It powers the front axle through a six-speed automatic transmission. So basically, this is an all-wheel-drive car electric at the rear and petrol propulsion at the front.
If you combine the two motors, you have a 165kW/385nm proposition.
The high-voltage lithium-ion battery is rated at 7.6kWh and is mounted low in the car. Luggage capacity is an acceptable 405L.
The battery comes with a warranty of six years or 100,000km. If you’re wondering about charging times MINI state “3 hours, 15 minutes via a regular household socket to only 2 hours, 15 minutes via the MINI Wallbox, which can be installed at the home or office for further convenience.”
