After that mega Apple event in March, the company has today announced the availability of their streaming TV service Apple TV+.
Available on all Apple devices and via browsers, Apple TV+ will launch on November 1 with a range of Apple original content – shows Apple has commissioned and had created specifically for the service – these shows won’t be available anywhere else.
At $7.99 it will be one of Australia’s most affordable streaming services, and for anyone buying a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or iPod from today, you’ll get a year of Apple TV+ for free.
The price is for family accounts too – so if you have the kids setup with Apple Accounts they get access right away.
Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video said “With Apple TV+, we are presenting all-original stories from the best, brightest and most creative minds, and we know viewers will find their new favourite show or movie on our service,”
“Each Apple TV+ original offers its own unique story, fresh perspective and powerful message — all meant to entertain, connect and inspire cultural conversations.”
“Apple TV+ is an unprecedented global video service with an all-original slate,” said Jamie Erlicht, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video. “We look forward to giving audiences everywhere the opportunity to enjoy these compelling stories within a rich, personalised experience on all the screens they love.”
Here are the shows Apple have made and call “Apple TV+ Originals”
Those are the launch titles, with new titles being added every month including:
There will be online and offline viewing, and works on Apple devices, new Samsung TVs and some other platforms, plus via the web at tv.apple.com
What we don’t know is what other content the service will have – these shows are great. They are high quality, but the depth of content available on Netflix and Stan make their value proposition much greater – so we’ve got a lot to find out at launch.
