Google set to launch mid-range Pixel 4a series with hole-punch camera

Google hit a solid home run with their mid-range Pixel 3a phones earlier this year, offering most of the features of their higher end Pixel 3 phones but at almost half the price. It looks as if they’re set to continue the line with renders of a Pixel 4a surfacing online.

The renders are generated by leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@onleaks on Twitter) in partnership with 91mobiles based on CAD designs from case makers and suppliers.

The Pixel 4a carries forth the same design language as the Pixel 4 phones, though with a few key differences. The Pixel 4a design will again have a 3.5mm headphone jack, and will apparently remove the notch containing the face recognition and hands-free radar gestures of the Pixel 4. Instead Google will using a hole-punch camera in the display which appears to be around 5.7-inches in size.

Google will include a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the phone for biometric security, with the large square camera module that featured prominently on the rear of the Pixel 4 still present. There will seemingly only be one camera module on the phone, meaning no telephoto option – though digital zoom (and Super Res-Zoom) will likely remain.

The internal specs of the Pixel 4a aren’t yet known, though you can expect a mid-range Snapdragon processor to power the phone.

Google will likely announce the Pixel 4a (and a slightly larger Pixel 4a XL) at the Google I/O developer conference around May 2020.
