Microsoft shares more details on Smart Delivery for the XBox One Series X

The feature announcements for next-gen consoles are coming thick and fast, with Microsoft today announcing new details on their Smart Delivery feature.

The Smart Delivery feature is simply Microsoft’s idea that gamers who buy a game on the Xbox One now won’t have to purchase it again to play it on the Xbox Series X when it launches later this year – bargain!

Microsoft has expanded on the announcement in a blog post, outlining how you’ll be able to carry game saves from one generation console to the next. Their announcement also features a few new titles which will be included in the Smart Delivery program.

Microsoft is leaving the decision to add Smart Delivery support up to developers, and will be supported for both digital purchases, and games with physical discs if the developer or publisher decides to implement it.

Smart Delivery will be offer an Optimised version of games depending on which platform you play it on. You can start a game like Halo Infinite on an Xbox One Series X in the living room, then move to the bedroom to play it on an older Xbox One without losing your place, getting the best version of each game on each platform.

Microsoft says that Smart Delivery will be enabled for Xbox Game Pass titles – their all you can eat digital service which offers access to over 100 games on PC or Xbox from $10.95/month – including Halo Infinite, Gears 5, Cyberpunk 77 and more:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Destiny 2
  • DiRT 5
  • Scarlet Nexus
  • Chorus
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon
  • The Ascent
  • Call of the Sea
  • Second Extinction
  • Metal: Hellslinger

The next-gen Xbox One Series X is set to be announced around the ‘Holidays’ this year, at around the same time as the Sony Playstation 5. There’s great games coming to both platforms, so the big question is: Which will you get?
