iPhone 12: Our first look at the possible design of the 2020 iPhones

Year, after Year, after Year iPhone case manufacturers try to source as much information as they can about the upcoming iPhones being released by Apple, with a view to tooling up their factories to make cases ready for the phones the day they are available.

This means getting your hands on a “dummy” phone – but Apple doesn’t make such a thing available. Instead, there are factories in China making these dummy phones based on leaks, sources, and all manner of things – and for most years, they are spot on.

Here’s our first look at the 2020 iPhone dummy phones.

What we see here are two key things.

An all-new design, and a switch in the size and model lineup.

Design:

We started with the iPhone 3G and 3GS having curved edges. Then the iPhone 4, 4S, 5 and 5S went for a flat edge. Then we went back to curves with the iPhone 6 and it’s stayed that way essentially for a staggering six years!

The 2020 “Case dummies” indicate a stark shift back to a flat edge, similar to the sleek look of the iPad Pro.

It’s a refreshing look, and I think long overdue.

Lineup:

Interestingly, the smaller of the three dummy models has a dual lens camera.

That would indicate that the standard “iPhone 12” is the smaller of the three.

Currently, the iPhone 11 is the middle size of the three launched in 2019.

Going up to 6.1 inches is the iPhone 12 Pro, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max looks set to have a staggering 6.7 inch screen, and is slightly taller than the current iPhone 11 Pro max.

Of course, this could all be an elaborate ruse, and we don’t even know if iPhone 12 will be the name. But I’d put money on it for now.
