Optus MVNO Gomo launches $25 per month plan with 18GB of data

It’s a busy week for new low-cost MVNO’s (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) this week, after the launch of TPG Telecom’s Felix yesterday, Gomo, Optus’ low-cost offering has today unveiled their launch plan and pricing.

There’s only one plan for launch. For $25 per month (30 days) users will get 18GB of data with up to 200 GB data rollover. There’s also unlimited standard national talk and text. Gomo will include unlimited international calls to 15 countries, but notes in the terms and conditions that ‘Calls to other international destinations are not supported on this plan’.

Gomo is offering incentives for customers who pre-order a SIM card, offering the first 5,000 people who sign up between the 18th – 22nd of November their first month for just $1. Further incentives includes an offer of 3 months free access if you remain on the service for 3 months for a total cost of $51 for 6 months access.

Like Telstra’s Belong, and TPG Telecom’s Felix, Gomo is a digital only service using the Gomo app as the way for customers access onboarding, service and payments 24/7. This approach is ‘all about giving customers more bang for their buck on a great quality network in a simple and straight-forward way‘ says Gomo.

With the launch of Gomo, we now have low-cost digital services from all three big Australian telco’s. Felix which uses the Vodafone network, offering users unlimited data for $35 per month, though at a reduced 5Mbps speed. Belong offers users 10GB of month at full 3G/4G speeds for $25 per month using the Telstra network.

The coverage offered by Gomo will be that offered by Optus, so if you’re making the decision to switch it’s a great idea to check that out before pre-ordering a Gomo SIM.

There’s no date for when Gomo will be live, but they will be delivering SIM cards to users from November 23rd. There’s also no sign of the Gomo Australia app on Google Play, or on the iOS app store but they should be available by the time the service goes live.

Great to see increased competition in the market place, and the digital only idea is good. With all these digital only services launching, it hopefully won’t be too long before we see some eSIM action so there’s instant sign-ups and switching.
