LG unveils new TV line-up at CES 2021

At an all digital CES press day, LG has unveiled their new TV line-up for 2021. The new range includes the QNED90 Mini LED, NANO90 and NANO85 NanoCell TVs.

LG OLED evo and α 9 processor

In 2021 LG will use OLED evo technology in their G1 series, while their C1 range will see more size offerings ranging from 48-inch to 83-inch.

There’s also big news across their entire lineup with the introduction of their new α (Alpha) 9 Gen 4 AI processor.

The α 9 Gen 4 AI processor offers upscaling improvements so your content looks great no matter the size of your display, and will also support AI Picture Pro, a feature that LG says ‘recognises onscreen objects such as faces and bodies and distinguishes between foregrounds and backgrounds, processing each object independently to make images look three-dimensional’.

There’s also audio improvements incorporated into the α 9 processor with a new version of LG AI Sound Pro offering Virtual 5.1.2 surround sound up-mixing using just the TV speakers. LG is also offering Auto Volume Levelling, a feature that keeps the volume at the same level even if you change channels, or streaming service.

The new processor is also tied to the announcement of WebOS 6.0 across LG’s OLED, QNED Mini LED, and UHD TVs, offering viewers an “enjoyable and intuitive content discovery experience

LG Nanocell Range

LG has expanded the number of TV models that will support HDMI 2.1 in 2021, the newly announced QNED90 Mini LED, NANO90 and NANO85 NanoCell TVs will support the latest features.

HDMI 2.1 includes features such as enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) and automatic low latency mode (ALLM) as well as variable refresh rate (VRR).

Gamers wanting the faster input of HDMI 2.1 will also be able to take advantage of Game Optimiser, a one stop shop for gaming controls on the TVs. LG put management options for G-SYNC, FreeSync Premium and variable refresh rate (VRR), in the Game Optimiser so you can manage them.

QNED Mini LED TVs

LG is launching QNED Mini LED TVs at CES 2021. These displays use mini LEDs on the back panel, for illuminating the display. The smaller size means that manufacturers can pack more LEDs in. More LEDs equates to more dimming zones which allows for more precise control of brightness, and overall deeper blacks and a higher contrast ratio than other types of LED TVs.

LG QNED

The Q in the QNED name is checking the Quantum Dot technology that manufacturers now use in their premium range of TVs. The Quantum Dot technology essentially equates to darker blacks and more vibrant non-blue colours from your TV.

LG Rollable Phone

LG also showed off the first look at the rollable LG phone project, the second of their ‘Explorer’ series phones which launched with the LG Wing, and explores different concepts for phones.

The phone itself appears similar in concept to the rollable mobile display that Oppo announced back in November. LG hasn’t given any information on release, so we’ll keep an eye on this one.
