The past 12 months has seen many of us spend far too much time in our households along with far too much time in front of TVs. As our time in front of the TV increased so did our time using streaming services for content with some surprising stats uncovered.
A recent survey has found that Australians spent more time using streaming services than they did free-to-air (2.88 versus 2.64 hours). The streaming increase was a result of 63% of Australians watching “more” or “considerably more” streaming content.
The survey by Tubi, an ad-supported video on demand service with movies and TV shows from most major Hollywood studios, attribute much of the growth in streaming service use to younger audiences. 45% of adults aged under 24 years added or had a free new service trial.
Before the pandemic just 16% of Australians added a new subscription service in the prior six months but in the past six months over a third of Australians (36%) have added one. Of course, this has come at a cost with the average Australian now spending over $23 per month on streaming services but 10% of us are spending over $50 per month!
Tubi found that half of viewers say that affordable or free services determine whether they subscriber to a new service with nearly as many saying that they want a wide library of titles along with 38% want content they already love — something that Tubi is aiming to provide to users, albeit ad-supported.
If you are interested in checking out yet another streaming service or want to try something different you can check out Tubi at www.tubi.tv and start watching without subscribing.
Tubi is available for free on Android, iOS, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Xfinity X1, Xbox, Samsung Smart TVs, Sony Smart TVs, PlayStation and the web.
