Ever since announcing the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro back in August we’ve been waiting for more details on the new custom Tensor processor, and of course when we can get our hands on them and how much. Now Google has announced their ‘Pixel Fall Launch’ event for October 19th.
The event, which was announced on social media will be live streamed by Google through their YouTube channel from 10am Pacific Time on October 19th – that’s the wee hours of October 20th for those of us playing at home. There’s also their pixelevent.withgoogle.com site which is ready to help you make a calendar invite and hype up the incoming phones as well.
Details on the phones have already been announced with the Pixel 6 Pro using a 6.7” display (QHD resolution) with 120Hz refresh rate while the Pixel 6 will include a ‘flat’ 6.4” display (1080p resolution) with a 90Hz refresh rate, both of which will use an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The design of the phones is rather striking and will very likely be divisive in terms of aesthetics with a horizontal camera bar stretching across the rear of the phones. The camera setup for the two phones will differ with a wide-angle main sensor expected to be 50MP paired with a 12MP ultra-wide lens on the standard Pixel 6, while the Pixel 6 Pro will include the same sensors, but adds in a 4x Optical zoom on a 48MP sensor.
Pricing for the phones has been rumoured to be higher end, with European pricing expected to sit around €649 for the Pixel 6 (around $1032 AUD) while the Pixel 6 Pro is expected to be €899 (around $1430 AUD).
We’ve already seen the colours that both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will launch in with the Pixel 6 expected in three colours: orange, green/blue and black/grey with the Pixel 6 Pro coming in three colours also: black/grey, gold and cream and a more traditional white/black ‘panda’ model.
