A chain of up to 30 shopping centres across Australia will form the first shopping-centre based fast-charging network for Electric Cars thanks to a partnership between Vicinity Centres and low-carbon energy company ENGIE.

Shopping is the perfect time to recharge, with most vehicles capable of getting a solid 50-80% battery charge in just 30 mins or more it could take you from anxiety to planning a road-trip while you get the groceries.

Vicinity Chief Innovation and Information Officer, Justin Mills points to the convenience a shopping centre offers in these situations “Our national portfolio of centres across Australia offers a unique opportunity to provide accessible and convenient fast-charging facilities for our communities to enjoy,” said Mr Mills.

“With 66% of the Australian population living within a 30-minute drive of our centres, the rollout out of electric vehicle charging in our car parks will greatly expand the charging infrastructure, paving the way for greater electric vehicle ownership in Australia.

ENGIE ANZ Director of Transport and Green Mobility, Greg Schumann says it’s an important step for the EV market in Australia “Customers will experience the unrivalled convenience of being able to seamlessly integrate the charging of their vehicle as part of their everyday lifestyle, while they enjoy our market-leading retail, leisure and service offerings.”
