OPPO has just announced their next flagship smartphone series for 2022, the Find X5 series. With the new series they are aiming to raise the bar on smartphone imaging and continue on with the premium design language they started last year.
There are three smartphones in the series, the Find X5 Pro, the Find X5 and the Find X5 Lite. The Pro is obviously the ultra-premium version of the three and the Lite the affordable one. OPPO has once again attempted to focus on improvements in computational photography as well as traditional imaging with a new MariSilicon X Imaging NPU (neural processing unit – AI) and a new partnership with Hasselblad.
Michael Tran, Managing Director of OPPO Australia said: “MariSilicon X — our recently-unveiled self-designed imaging NPU — makes its debut on the Find X5 Series. Additionally, we’ve joined forces with Hasselblad to bring its Natural Color Calibration to our new flagship range. “
The Find X5 Pro
The ultra-premium smartphone of the Find X5 flagship series, the Find X5 Pro comes packed with great camera specs including a triple rear camera setup made up of a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 50MP ultra wide-angle camera and a 13MP telephoto camera. Combined they can produce 4K “Ultra Night Video” and Ultra HDR photography. Combine these with Hasselblad’s colour calibration and MariSilicon X NPU chipset’s computing and AI chops and you can be sure you’ll be getting an imaging powerhouse.
The front camera is a high quality 32MP camera and is able to capture one billion colours – the MariSilicon X NPU is also applied to selfie photos as well for improved clarity and a boosted dynamic range so you can be sure of getting the best selfie at all times.
“Find X5 Series showcases the continued elevation of the Find X series, both in terms of capability and aesthetics. With the announcement of our new series we are raising the bar for flagship smartphone performance with OPPO’s best-ever technology and product experience,” said Michael Tran, Managing Director of OPPO Australia.
The design is very similar to last year’s Find X3 with a curved rear, including a curve into the camera module. The rear is made of an ultra-hard ceramic back and is available in Ceramic White and a Glaze Black.
One of the best things about the Find X series devices are their displays. The Find X5 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch ultra-clear curved AMOLED display with a 2K (WQHD+) resolution which provides 100% P3 colour gamut coverage. The display is also capable of 1 to 120Hz refresh rate depending on what is being displayed on the display thanks to its LTPO make up.
Add in the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and an IP68 water and dust resistance and you have a phone with everything. Its dual battery technology also allows for ultra-fast wired charging – 80W – and ultra-fast wireless charging of 50W (using their charger). At 5000mAh it will no doubt last more than a day – we will be sure to test that out in our review units.
The Find X5 and the Find X5 Lite
Joining the Find X5 Pro in the new flagship series are the Find X5 and the Find X5 Lite.
The Find X5 includes the same rear camera setup as the Find X5 Pro with a triple rear camera set up (50MP, 50MP and 13MP) and a MariSilicon X NPU to aid in the computational photography. It differs from the Pro in that it has just a 6.5-inch display (still plenty big enough) with only a 1080P resolution but is still capable of the smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It still supports 80W SuperVOOC fast charging and 30W AirVOOC wireless charging.
The Find X5 also arrives with last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon flagship chipset – the SD888 – and comes with just 8GB of RAM. While the specs may not match the ultra-premium Find X5 Pro its specs are good enough for most end users, especially given its camera chops matches those of the ultra-premium Find X5 Pro.
The Find X5 Lite is a much more affordable device but it still sports a triple rear camera consisting of a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. Its display is a 6.4-inch AMOLED display capable of a refresh rate of 90Hz and is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset. It will be available in Startrails Blue and Starry Black and houses a 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging. The Find X5 Lite looks set to be great value for money.
