While their budget and performance range of Aspire and Swift notebooks are exciting, gamers are more interested in the new range of Acer Predator and Nitro devices unveiled this morning at CES.
The new Nitro range includes the new Nitro 16 (AN16-51) and Nitro 17 (AN17-51) gaming laptops featuring updated CPU and GPU specs, while the Predator range includes the all-new Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71) and Predator Helios 18 (PH18-71) with completely new design and upgraded thermals and internal components.
As a nod to their gaming focus, both the new Nitro and Predator Helios systems will both include one month of Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass, providing access to hundreds of high-quality PC games.
The new Nitro 16 and Nitro 17 gaming laptops feature a significant update over previous models with the more powerful 13th Gen Intel Core processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series Laptop GPUs.
Both models include fast complementary components to go with these next-gen CPU/GPU combos including up to 32 GB of DDR5 4800 MHz memory, and up to a massive 2 TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 storage. Improved cooling on the Nitro 16 and Nitro 17 includes dual fans and four fan outlets on the sides and rear, with an upper air intake, with liquid metal thermal grease to aid cooling.
The laptops are available with either 16-inch or 17-inch display, with the Nitro 16 offering either a 16-inch WUXGA/WQXGA panel, while the Nitro 17 uses a 17.3-inch FHD/QHD display. Both displays offer 165Hz refresh rate – however the Nitro 16 display includes support for NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, allowing users to dynamically switch between the integrated graphics and discrete graphics without having to reboot.
The Nitro 16 and 17 both include Wi-Fi 6 1650i, as well as HD camera, two microphones, and two speakers with DTS:X® Ultra audio. Gamers can enjoy video out with the HDMI 2.1 port or use the dual Thunderbolt 4 ports which also support Power Delivery, as well as a microSD card reader and three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports.
Both the Nitro 16 and Nitro 17 are due to arrive in Q2 this year, with Acer Australia advising the Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-51) and Acer Nitro 17 (AN17-51) pricing will start at USD $1,199.99 (around $1765 AUD).
The new range of Acer Predator gaming laptops are sure to please gamers coming in 16-inch and 18-inch display sizes.
The Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71) will include a 16-inch (16:10) WQXGA (2560×1600) display capable of 165 Hz or 240 Hz refresh rate or a Mini LED panel at 250 Hz, powered by AUO AmLED technology that supports over 1000 nits peak brightness with 1,000,000:1 high contrast ratio and 100% coverage of DCI-P3 colour gamut for rich, vivid colours. The Predator Helios 18 (PH18-71) on the other hand will offer a choice between either an 18-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) at 165 Hz, WQXGA (2560×1600) at 165 Hz or 240 Hz, or the AUO 250 Hz Mini LED panel which supports 1000 local dimming zones.
Both the Predator Helios 16 and Predator Helios 18 will include the latest 13th Gen Intel Core i9 or i7 HX processors paired with up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPUs (MGP up to 165W) and up to 32 GB DDR5-4800 MHz RAM and up to 2 TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD in RAID 0.
To enable these new internal components, Acer has improved the thermal solutions on both models offering dual custom-engineered 5th Gen AeroBlade 3D metal fans and vector heat pipes in a new rectangular configuration. Liquid Metal thermal grease has also been added for CPU cooling.
The Predator Helios systems will include a number of cool features including a matte black chassis with customisable RGB light bar that runs along the top of the back vents, as well as a mini-LED backlit keyboard with per-key RGB lights.
The laptops will both include ethernet and WiFi 6E for improved connectivity, as well as USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, HDMI 2.1 port and dual USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports which support Power Delivery and a micros SD card reader.
Acer Australia has confirmed the Predator Helios 16 and Helios 18 will be arriving in Australia in Q1 with the Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71) starting at USD $1,699.99 (around $2,500AUD), while the Predator Helios 18 (PH18-71) will start at USD $1,599 (around $2,354 AUD).
