Hot on the heels of Netflix jacking up it’s prices this week, Amazon Prime Video has begun advising it’s subscribers of a change to their platform as of July 2 – Ads!
“Starting July 2 Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisments”
Yep, you’ve been watching ad free for years, now the ads will come.
Unless that is, you’re happy to pay another $2.99.
Prime Video is already basically the cheapest mainstream streaming service available at $9.99, but adding that $2.99 takes away that edge they had.
How many ads will Prime Video show?
Well, they say “we aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers”. I’ve heard from several Netflix ad tier viewers this week who are happy with what they get, so perhaps there’s value there if you can put up with it.
But, Prime Video with ads, is more expensive than Netflix with Ads.
Video Quality and Number of streams is a whole other comparison that runs in Amazon Prime Video’s favour.
Interesting times in streaming!
