The Internet has been a buzz since Microsoft announced their new AI PCs and AI strategy earlier this week but one thing yet to be discussed in detail is its security. Trend Micro has today outlined their strategy to protect customers as we move into the AI PC and AI apps world.
According to a recent study, over 70 percent of users are excited about the potential of AI to enhance task quality but nearly the same percentage (65 percent) stated that they worry about AI’s role in spreading misinformation and 58 percent were concerned about AI’s misuse of their images. We may not all be Scarlet Johansson but the concern is and should be there. There are also concerns about vulnerabilities within AI apps themselves of course and the potential for misuse and misappropriation of users’ data.
Trend Micro’s outline for your protection when using these AI PCs will be arriving in the second half of 2024 and will be designed to “protect AI, protect users from AI abuses, and leverage AI in both existing and new products and services.”

The solutions include, directly from Trend Micro:
- AI Application Protection: Protection capabilities against tampering with AI applications, contaminating the AI application with malicious input, and preventing AI applications from inadvertently or maliciously accessing sensitive data.
- Malicious AI Content Protection: Solutions that protect consumers from malicious AI-generated or AI-altered content.
- NPU-powered Cybersecurity Capabilities: Solutions designed for AI PCs that leverage the additional compute power.
While the whole new AI PC era is exciting, we do need to be careful not to just jump right in without the forethought to consider bad actors and malicious apps. It’s good to see Trend Micro getting ready to protect us all.
