It’s been a year, but we’re finally getting Apple Vision Pro!
At their annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) Apple today announced new markets for the Vision Pro after its launch exclusively in the USA in February.
It took seven months from the product’s announcement for Apple to get it into retail in the USA and now several new markets will get access to this brand new product.
For Australians, you can pre-order Vision Pro on Jun 28, with availability from July 12.
With a price of $3,499 in the United States, we always knew that the Australian price was going to be high – $5,999 – this is not going to be for everyone.
Given WWDC is a developer show, Apple also announced some teaks to the operating system used by Apple Vision Pro. VisionOS 2 will include the ability to turn any 2D photo into a 3 Dimensional Spatial photo – which looks more real and has depth when viewed in the Apple Vision Pro.
Apple has also enabled some new developer tools – one of which allows the creation of multi-screen viewing options for streaming video or live content publishers. The best example of this is sport – where you could be watching a live feed along with various angles, or even other feeds. While we have zero reason to believe they’re looking at it, this would be an outstanding concept for Stan Sport in the Olympics, or Kayo with their busy live weekend schedule – like being in a sports bar of your own, sitting at home in your lounge room.
Immersive Video demonstrations were stepped up a gear too, with more content on display to experience in Vision Pro. Remarkably, much of what is showcased is “Spatial” which in reality means “3D” – this is the return of 3D – something Apple is allowing the creation of Spatial content with the Vision Pro, as well as the iPhone 15.
Apple announced they’d been working with Aussie legends Blackmagic who will have an Immersive Video camera, and workflow in their Davinci Resolve software.
Apple Vision Pro will be available at all Apple Store locations across Australia, and starts at $5,999 – more for the 512GB or 1TB versions.
If you need lenses to correct your vision, the ZEISS Optical inserts will cost $169-$249, the Travel Case will be $349 and AppleCare+ will be $849!
Pre-Orders for Apple Vision Pro in Australia begin on Friday June 28, with the device on-sale July 12.
