Aussies want bigger, better quality TVs that don’t reflect glare

The TV continues to be a focal point in the family home, with new technologies helping to destress, while also causing the green-eyed envy monster to rear its head as we see new, larger TVs announced with better features.

In new research announced today from PureProfile, Samsung have looked at the increasingly central role that televisions play in Australians’ lives and how things like TV envy related to size and quality of the screen, as well as factors including glare can affect our experience.

Size really does matter with TVs, as does picture quality. 46% of the nation is suffering from ‘TV envy’ after comparing the size and quality of their own TV with that of friends and family. I recently updated my parents in-law to a slightly larger model TV, selecting the new Samsung QLED Q90D and the difference in picture quality was immediately apparent, with the increased size a nice adjustment for them as well.

While quality and size is a big factor, at least one-third (37%) of the Aussies polled in the survey agree that there is a ‘prime seat’ in the lounge that avoids TV glare – a fact that can cause some arguments when picking your seat. From those polled, 60% even admitted to rearranging furniture to avoid glare while watching TV.

Previously TVs have used a matte finish on the likes of the Samsung Frame, which has helped immensely, though the latest Samsung TVs including the recently released Samsung S95D OLED 4K Smart TV were built for Australian conditions, with the new OLED Anti-Glare technology. The technology helps to ‘preserve colour accuracy and to reduce reflections while maintaining image sharpness to ensure an immersive viewing experience, even in brightly lit rooms’ says Samsung.

Once you have your TV situation sorted, Aussies are using their TVs more to destress at the end of the day. While relaxing with your favourite shows is a big pastime, Aussies are changing our habits and increasingly we’re doing things like exercising, gaming, or listening to music to destress with our TVs.

Our TVs have evolved beyond what they used to be used for, with the availability of streaming services, as well as the likes of apps covering a variety of topics and even activities available on our SmartTVs.

There’s a lot more choice available as technology progresses, including options from Samsung up to 98-inch, with panels including a range of technologies such as Neo QLED, OLED and QLED TV able to fit your budget and offer the quality you need, as well as fit your living space.
