A post on social media has proven police officers get as frustrated as the rest of us when it comes to drivers who hog the right lane when not overtaking.
One clueless tradie in a ute – on a red provisional licence – got busted last week sitting in the right lane for three kilometres on a major Sydney motorway while there was no traffic in the left lane to overtake.
Above: A ute gets stopped by police for sitting in the right lane. The number plate has been obscured in the photo to protect the driver’s privacy.
The only other car on the road, it seems, was a marked police car who followed the ute for several minutes before stopping the vehicle to talk to the driver.
It was a costly error of judgment on the driver’s part.
The young driver’s inattention – and ignorance of the road rules – cost him a fine of $410, and two demerit points were applied to his licence.
Here is the description of the incident, according to the Facebook page for the NSW Police Traffic and Highway Patrol Command:
“Don’t be this motorist who ignored a Keep Left Unless Overtaking Sign, a (digital message) board stating the same, and a Liverpool Highway Patrol car that was travelling behind them for three kilometres!”
