Starlink Mini – the “portable” anywhere internet solution now available in Australia

If you’re a nomad, traveller or someone who relies on high speed connectivity on the go anywhere in Australia then Starlink might have the tech for you – Starlink Mini.

Starlink is the global internet solution which uses low earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed internet to almost anywhere you can see the sky.

Until now the solutions available here were home style or for those grey nomads setting up camp in new places.

The hardware was a reasonably large satellite dish that had a WiFi router attached which gave you internet where it was setup.

Primarily used on homes, but also for those travelling for a slightly different package.

But if you wanted something far more portable, let’s say something you could just carry yourself – then a 1.1kg satellite dish with built-in WiFi might be perfect for you.

Starlink Mini is basically plug and play, with a small kickstand included so you can set it up at your campsite or whatever you choose.

They’re not cheap though – $799 compared to the normal full sized unit at $599.

And the monthly cost could sting.

Mobile on-the-go users will pay $174 for unlimited data on land.

If you want something more affordable, an $80 plan gets you 50GB of data when on the main land mass.

For the top end, pay $374 and get great in-motion use and unlimited data, limited only when you hit the high seas.

It’s a market no one else is even competing in – yet, but having seen Amazon’s plans for this space, I’d say there’s competition coming!
