Energizer ups the ante with a new 3-in-1 Child Shield for their coin batteries

Battery maker Energizer have released an update to their Lithium coin batteries, introducing a new 3-in-1 Child Shield system to help reduce the potential of kids swallowing them.

The new Energizer system was announced earlier this year but has just been rolled out to Australian retailers. The new 3-in-1 Child Shield system is now available on their 2016, 2025 and 2032 Lithium coin batteries.

The three prong approach introduces a safety system which includes three prong approach, starting with a more robust Child-Resistant packaging, making it harder for kids to get their hands on the batteries in the first place.

The batteries also have a non-toxic bitter coating, which makes them extremely unattractive to kids the moment they put them in their mouth.

Energizer has also introduced a Colour Alert on the batteries, with the tiny batteries producing a non-toxic food grade dye that activates on contact with saliva (or moisture), visibly dying the mouth blue in just a few seconds so caregivers know so they need to seek medical attention.

Energizer’s Cari Curtis, Sr. Director Global Marketing said of the new 3-in-1 Child Shield system.

We continue to push the boundaries of the industry by offering the most comprehensive safety system in the lithium coin cell battery market. The result of this unwavering commitment has resulted in a product that not only enhances child safety, but also delivers exceptional, long-lasting performance and compatibility with all devices”.

Energizer has begun stocking the new lithium coin battery range in Australian retailers now, with the range starting at $13 for a single battery, with packs of two and four also available.
