Hubbl boxes and Hubbl Glass TVs have been offline for the most part of today (Friday Sept 20) as a result of what we can only assume was a routine software update gone bad. Black screens, inability to turn the device on – it’s been a nightmare day for users.
At the time of the outage Hubbl users were advised online “Please do not attempt to reboot your Hubbl device” – sadly, doing so may mean a world of pain down the track.
To get your Hubbl box working tonight, you’ll need to do a manual reset. If you’re not keen on that, you can wait it out and there will be an overnight update to restore your service.
Hubbl advise that the manual reset can take around 15 minutes.
Turn the device off at the wall – flick the power socket switch as you’ll need to access that during this process. Have a look at the bottom of your Hubbl for the standby button. On the Hubbl Glass this is located on the right hand side of the TV.
While holding the standby button (shown in Green on these images), flick the power switch on the wall back on and wait until you see the LED on the front turn Yellow on the Hubbl box, or Red on the Hubbl Glass TV
Now you can let go of that Standby button!
Now you just wait for the device to power up after reset.
Once that happens, you turn it on, and will have to follow the Guided setup process.
If you happen to see an Incorrect PIN message on screen, turn the device on and off again at the wall, and follow the guided setup again.
It’s not ideal, but if there’s sport on this weekend (Hello Footy Finals and F1 Singapore), you’re going to have to do this.
No official word from Foxtel or Hubbl as to what caused this issue, we expect to hear more on the weekend, but it’s a major issue, not a problem restricted only to Australia, with Sky in the UK posting on their help pages on social media that they are aware of an issue.
Sky Glass is the same physical TV as Hubbl glass and Sky Stream is the set top box we know as Hubbl.
This indicates a bigger issue globally and points to a failed software update.
