Google have announced their latest A-series device, with the Pixel 9a available to pre-order today for $849. The phone will be available to pre-order from today, with the phone going on-sale starting in April.
Google’s Pixel a series has become known for delivering exceptional values, with the Pixel 9a delivering the essential Pixel 9 experience at a more budget friendly price.
The Pixel 9a has an all new sleek look with a flat back, rounded corners and a new streamlined rear camera design ‘inspired by nature and water droplets’ housing an incredible camera says Google. The phone is also the first A-series device to include IP68 dust/water resistance making it one of the most durable a-series phones yet.

The redesigned phone includes a 100% recycled aluminium frame, with an 81% recycled plastic back cover, which will be available in four colours. There’s the usual Porcelain (White) and Obsidian (Black), which are joined by Peony (Pink) from the Pixel 9 series and introduces a new colour, Iris.

On the front of the phone, Google is continuing to bring their Actua display technology to the A-series, this year launching the Pixel 9a with a 6.3” Actua Display capable of 2700 Nits peak brightness, the brightest display on a-series device to date – that’s 35% brighter than Pixel 8a. The phone will offer their smooth display with refresh rates ranging from 60-120Hz.
The Pixel 9a will be powered by the Tensor G4 processor that powered the Pixel 9 series last year. The Tensor G4 will bring a host of AI-powered features including Gemini Advanced giving you screen sharing capabilities including sharing your camera so you can talk with Gemini about what it sees. You’ll get 8GB of RAM in the Pixel 9a, with a choice between 128GB or 256GB of on-board storage.
The Pixel series is known for fantastic cameras and the Pixel 9a continues this with a new 48MP main sensor and 13MP Ultra-Wide sensor on the rear with a 13MP selfie camera embedded in the Actua Display on the front.
The camera includes AI powered features including 8x Super Zoom as well as the editing features launched on the Pixel 9 series last year like Add Me, Best Take and Magic Editor. Google says the Pixel 9a also retains all the awesome features we’ve come to know and love, like their stunning Night Sight for low-light photography as well as Astrophotography and video features like Audio Magic Erase.
There’s a 5,100mAh battery inside which Google says will give you over 30 hours of battery life. The phone supports up to 23 Watt Fast Charging if you use the Pixel Fast Charger – however there’s no charger included in the box, so you’ll find that on-sale for $45 on the Google Store – though you do get a USB-C cable in the box.
