ECOVACS DEEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI Review: A premium cleaner that gets everywhere

Announced earlier this month, the ECOVACS DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI is one of their latest models to hit the Australian market, with a slimline design and impressive suction power.

Priced at $1,499 and available in-store now, as well as online. It’s Ecovac’s lowest profile robot vacuum to date with a height of just 81mm. It also brings hot water washing, tangle free brush & AIVI 3D 3.0 object detection and avoidance.

The robot cleaner comes with everything you need to get cleaning, including the OMNI Station for recharging your robot cleaner, as well as auto-refill and drain of clean and dirty water for hassle-free cleaning and maintenance.

I’ve been using the ECOVACS DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI for two weeks now and here’s how it went.

Setup

There’s almost everything you need in the box, the Omni Station with clean and dirty water tanks, as well as the T50 Pro itself, manuals and power cable.

The included brush is easily clipped on, and then you just fill the clean water tank, plug in the power cable (with a handy right angled head) to the omni station and place the robot inside and you’re off.

There’s already a dustbag installed inside the Omni station which you can easily get to by removing the front panel.

The only thing not included is some cleaning fluid. While most companies include at least a starter, ECOVACS unfortunately don’t with the DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI – and we’ll get to the consumables shortly.

You will need the Ecovacs Home app which is available for Android and iOS. Fire up the app and use the camera to scan the QR Code under the cover on the robot and the setup process takes you through connecting you to your home Wifi, downloading any firmware updates available and then naming your robot.

Mapping is the usual process of tidying around your home to give the robot – he’s been named François by the Boy – its best chance of getting its bearings. This includes picking up any cables etc. though he proved to be quite the good little cleaner ignoring some carelessly left cables during cleaning.

I highly recommend closing any blinds so the robot can’t see outside, and if you have mirrored wardrobe doors it can produce some interesting maps. I mapped twice after an initial map went awry and it was all good to go.

Editing the map is easy, letting you name rooms, merge, delete or divide areas and define virtual boundaries and floor types.

Once your home is mapped, you’re ready to go. You can manually start the robot from the app, using the OK Yiko or Google Home/Alexa voice control or by pressing the power button on the top of the vacuum. You can also set a schedule for a single clean, or repeated cleans each day.

Consumables

The DEEBOT T50 Pro Omni includes almost everything, with the cleaning fluid not supplied. You can also get replacement brushes, dust bags, filters and rollers, which ECOVACS sell in kits for the DEEBOT T50 and  conveniently offer quarterly and half yearly maintenance  kits.

The cleaning fluid can be purchased as a separate item. I paid $32 for a 1L bottle from Amazon, however you can easily find some for $37.,50 RRP through Ecovacs, as well as other Australian retailers in-store.

Omni Station

The Deebot T50 Pro Omni comes with the Omni Station for charging the robot, depositing debris from the vacuum and cleaning the mop pads and refilling the water and cleaning station in the robot cleaner.

The Omni Station includes the Dirty and Clean Water Tanks which have a 4L capacity and have nice visual labels. It’s also where the dust bag and cleaning fluid reservoir live behind an easily removed and replaced panel.

The docking process is fairly quiet, with the robot rolling in and emptying into the dust bag in the Omni Station, then proceeding with cleaning the mop pads.

The Deebot T50 Pro Omni introduces heated mopping and drying for the mop pads, sanitising them and keeping them dry when not in use. It cleans the mop pads with rotating dual-directional scrapers and 70°C hot water, then dries them with hot air at 45°C automatically when the robot docks in the station.

You can remove the dual scrubbers for a bit of extra maintenance, and you can also peel the mopping pads off and throw them in with a wash to give them a really good clean if you want, however at this stage they look pretty good after being used heavily for a couple of weeks.

Battery and Charging

The Omni station also charges the 6400mAh Lithium Ion (Li-ion) battery in the Deebot T50 Pro Omni.

The robot can get through the house on Vacuum only, though it did require two charging cycles to mop/vacuum the whole house on full Max power. So it’s really quite dependent on how deep you need a clean.

Charging time can take a while – a shade under 4 hours in my testing, which line up with the official stats at 3.7 hours. Ecovacs do offer a novel option – Off-Peak charging. You can select an option to have it charge only during off-peak hours to save on electricity.

Setting up and using a daily schedule meant that I could leave it running during the day for the most part, and come home to a cleaned house, which is always nice to come back to.

Cleaning

The ECOVACS DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI really sucks….with suction power up to 15,000pa – an update from the T30 Pro Omni which had 12,000 – as well as bringing their ZeroTangle 2.0 technology to the T-Series, and introducing heated mop cleaning and drying.

It’s a pretty powerful system on paper, and works extremely well in practice.

The app offers a number of options across cleaning modes, you can choose from a quiet and gentle option through to Max suction power, as well as letting you choose between, mopping, vacuuming or a combo of the two. You can even change the water flow rate for the mopping, cleaning speeds and tell it to do a couple of passes for extra messy areas.

You also get options for the Omni Station – emptying the dust bin, or telling it to wash and dry the mop pads.

The mop pads can be removed manually, or if your carpet pile is 10mm or under, the DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI can lift them clear while vacuuming. It does indeed keep its butt clear of our medium to long pile carpets, with no damp trails left behind.

The vacuuming is also super impressive, leaving nice trails through the carpet and a clean feel under foot. It also avoids tangles from hair with the anti-tangle brush which uses 45° V-shaped anti-tangle bristles to let them just go through with the rest of the dust and debris.

The DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI supports crossing thresholds up to 22mm. I have a few high thresholds at the wet areas including at the main bathroom, laundry and ensuite all on top of a 20mm edge. The only area it couldn’t access was the ensuite which has carpet on the approach, while the others had hard floors.

The vacuum does get right in close to the edge however. The robot uses ECOVACS TruEdge 2.0 cleaning tech to get right into the edges, with a tolerance as low as 1mm.

They achieve this with a combination of a variable side brush that extends dynamically to reach deeper into corners and followed up by the variable mop plate. What this means is that the brush and mop get right to the edge – impressively close, including getting under closed internal doors.

A neat feature of the T50 Pro Omni is that it does away with the usual bump you see on top of robot cleaners. The lack of bump, and the slim 81mm profile means it can get in almost anywhere including low-profile furniture like lounges and more.

It’s pretty impressive that Ecovacs have achieved this lack of bump by embedding all their tech into the body of the robot, and the sleek, clean lines make it look a bit futuristic.

There’s a lot of tech onboard, including a Direct Time of Flight (dToF) sensorm LiDAR and TruEdge 2.0 to power their navigation and AIVI 3D 3.0 for advanced obstacle recognition

All the on-board tech is fantastic at recognising and avoiding obstacles it should leave.

All up, the cleaning is excellent. The carpets look great, and feel clean when you walk on them. The hard floors are also clean, though with a dog and a teen in the house, there’s a couple of messes that require a little more than any robot cleaner can handle – but they’re few and far between and the Deebot T50 Pro Omni keeps on top of everything else.

Final Thoughts

The Deebot T50 will clean your house. At $1,499 it’s a slightly higher end vacuum, but it’s convinced me it’s worth the money.

The premium features, from the low-profile design that lets it get into anywhere, to the versatile mop and brush that extend to get into the corners it really gets all those nooks and crannies you want it to.

The Omni Station keeps everything clean and dry with the new heated wash/scrub and air-drying of the mop pads, and it’s just so easy to service with everything easily accessible.

The overall cleaning is great, letting you confidently keep it on a schedule that lets you just forget it’s there until you need it to clean an area for you.

If you’re in the market for a robot cleaner, this is very well worth a look. You can find it at Bing Lee, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Retravision, The Good Guys (online), Amazon, and ECOVACS Online

Well worth a look, you’ll find it at Ecovacs, JB Hi-Fi and Amazon.
