New kid on the block, Mova Tech, a global smart appliance maker, launched their new range of robot and upright cleaners in Australia last month. As part of the launch, they’ve sent over their X4 Pro for us to check out.

Priced at $1,299 and available through JB Hifi and other retailers, the X4 Pro is an upright Wet and Dry Vacuum with a number of neat features including 20,000Pa suction power, edge-to-edge cleaning and it uses hot water for both floor cleaning and keeping the roller clean.

The unit includes a lay flat mode to get in underneath low furniture and keep those dreaded dustbunnies at bay, and includes a convenient dock you can roll it into for cleaning.

I’ve had the Mova Tech X4 Pro cleaning up spills and more around the home for the last couple of weeks, and here’s how it went.

Setup

It’s always nice to say that everything you need is included in the box, and Mova Tech definitely includes everything – and more.

The unit comes with a roller and filter pre-installed, but you also get spares! There’s also a brush for cleaning the unit, and cleaning fluid to get you going.

The physical setup is easy. The handle slots easily into the body, and dirty water tank is already pre-installed with a filter. The roller is also pre-installed, but very easy to replace with a ring-pull that slips out to let you easily pull it off for replacement.

All you really have to do is fill the water tank which sits on the back of the head of the unit. The placement is a little odd, but it works, and you can quickly remove the tank, fill and replace it and you’re ready to rock. When filling the clean water, you should add in 10ml of the cleaning fluid (about a capful) to the clean water tank and then you’re off and racing.

Consumables
On the consumables front, the only place to find them at them at the moment is the Mova Tech website, where they list the replacement parts and costs – though were listed as ‘coming soon’ as we publish:
Roller – $39
Filter – $29
Cleaning Fluid (500ml) – $29
The only downside is that 500ml bottle really, I’d love to get a full 1L at least when paying for shipping.  There does seem to be some options on Amazon – though the X4 Pro is a little new to see all the right parts available just yet.

Cleaning

While Mova Tech has the Movahome app for Android and iOS, the X4 Pro doesn’t appear. Instead, all the controls are on the handle, with the big LED display showing what’s happening.

On other upright cleaners an app allows you to update firmware, change the cleaning options when docked or even change the voice. The cleaner works perfectly fine without an app, with the on-device controls and LED display more than enough to control it.

There are four modes on the X4 Pro: Smart, Ultra, Suction and Hot Water mode which includes a Spot Spray.

The Smart Mode will adjust the power used as you go, based on what stains are on the ground.

The Ultra mode takes it to another level, offering deep cleaning for those hard to get stains. Ultra mode does take 30-seconds to initiate, but seems to blast the full suction at 20,000kpa.

Suction mode will simply suck up any spills you have around the place, with the roller brush not getting any water from the tank.

Lastly, the Hot Water Mode. Kicking this off will slowly heat the water to 80°C, with the ability to use the gold coloured trigger on the handle to fire off a “SpotHeat” spray.

Let’s just say this SpotHeat spray is brilliant! The intelligent mode takes care of most of your day to day cleaning. Our hard floors look magnificent.

The X4 Pro is particularly good at getting into places. The head has a 60° swivel to help manoeuvre it around furniture, and the edge-to-edge roller brush gets decently close into the corners and up against skirting boards. The X4 Pro can also get under furniture like our sofa with the lay-flat mode.

The cleaner has two mini wheels for guiding the cleaner while in use, as well as a small wheel on the back for lay-flat mode. The only thing the cleaner doesn’t have is powered direct-drive wheels to assist in forward and backwards motion. It’s fairly easy to manoeuvre even without this, so it’s not too big of a concern.

There is a green spotlight to help cleaning. It appears as a guide when you’re using the Hot Water Mode, as well as when you have it in Lay Flat mode so you can see under your furniture.

I’d love to see a white LED option which can be turned on at will, but this will do for now.

Self-Cleaning

When docked in the base station, the Mova Tech X4 Pro can initiate cleaning. The highlight of the X4 Pro is the ability to use boiling water at 100℃ to clean the roller brush.

The cleaning is excellent and easy to use. You simply press the Cleaning button at the top of the handle to initiate different actions. A brief press activates a self-clean, and you can also choose to initiate a deep clean by hitting the button again when prompted.

The unit can also enter a drying mode if you want to ensure the roller is dry by simply pressing and holding the cleaning button. This kicks off a 90°C heated drying cycle that leaves your roller brush dry and hopefully without any smells.

Overall, the cleaning process is great. It removes any excess stains from things like Coffee, Vegemite or other stains with the system inspecting the roller brush and re-cleaning if necessary.

Once the unit is cleaned it’s a great idea to empty the dirty water tank. It’s a good design, with the filter at the top able to be removed and washed – and you have a spare to go with when you need it.

The design of the tank includes a shelf for catching debris, making it easy to clear into a bin before disposing of the dirty water.

Charging and Battery

The Mova Tech X4 Pro includes a ‘6x5000mAh battery pack’ with the promise you can do up to 350m2 in one hit.

In my use, the Mova Tech X4 Pro worked great, taking around 45 minutes of cleaning, using all four modes to deplete the battery. In fact I had to fill the clean water tank most of the way through before the battery was even close to full.

The Smart and Suction modes appear to be the most economical to use in terms of battery, while the Ultra and Hot Water modes both run the battery percentage indicator down in front of your eyes.

The X4 Pro will issue a warning with a ‘Low Battery’ audible alert at 20%, as well as an indicator that pops up on the LED display. There’s no further warnings, and when it hits 0% it will declare ‘Battery Depleted’ and then power off.

Once you’re needing to charge you can simply roll the X4 Pro onto the charging base and leave it to go.

Charging wise, from dead flat to full takes a shade over three hours, incrementing around 10% every 15 minutes.

Final Thoughts

The Mova Tech X4 Pro is a great upright cleaner for your hard floors.

The roller brush can clean brilliantly, with the 20,000pa suction power really making sure to get every last piece of dust, while the roller cleans up any stains or mess on the floor.

There is a little missing with no app compatibility, but the simple on-device controls, massive easy to read LED display and voice confirmation make it easy to use for anyone.

What sets the X4 Pro apart is that heated cleaning and drying. The 80°C heated cleaning combined with the SpotWash makes sure any sticky marks on the floor are easily and thorougly cleaned, and when combined with the other modes, your floors will be squeaky clean in no time.

Pricing wise, the $1,299 price tag sits the X4 Pro on-par with a number of other uprights in the market – but it’s that additional hot water mode that sells it for me.

If you’re in the market for an upright cleaner, I really would recommend checking out the Mova Tech X4 Pro. You can see it in-store at JB Hi-Fi, or online through au.mova.tech
