Just days after the launch of Telstra’s first to market Satellite SMS service, the telco has announced expanded device support to include iPhone models.

iPhone 13, 14, 15 and iPhone 16 models will now be able to send and receive SMS messages on the Telstra network anywhere in Australia.

The Caveats remain, you need to be able see the sky (so your phone can see the Satellites), and you need to be on a Telstra “upfront” plan, that is – not a pre-paid top up style plan, and not one of the Telstra Wholesale carriers (like Aldi, Belong and even Boost).

Your iPhone needs to have the very latest iOS installed also.

But, once you’re ticking those boxes, you can be assured of some contact with the outside world, no matter where you are in Australia.

Telstra say already over 100,000 SMS messages have been sent and received using Telstra Satellite Messaging.
