We are seeing many smart toothbrushes arrive on the market these days. Electric toothbrushes have been around a while but now they are getting smart with apps that can program your brushing technique.
I’ve reviewed a couple in the past and while the app was useful while reviewing the brushes, I rarely, if ever, used the app once the review was over. The new toothbrush from Oclean, the X Pro Digital Sonic Electric Toothbrush, is different though.
I have been using the X Pro Digital Sonic Electric Toothbrush for the past week or so, and although I doubt I will use some parts of the app, there is one section that I will continue to use, for the first time ever, thus making the new Oclean toothbrush a bit of an enigma.

Read on to hear all my thoughts on the new Oclean X Pro Digital Sonic Electric Toothbrush.
What is it?
The Oclean X Pro Digital Sonic Electric Toothbrush incorporates a new motor inside, designed to provide over 84,000 brush movements per minute with a stable vibration. This is “up to 200% more cleaning energy and 500% more stability compared to a regular sonic motor,” which should result in a deeper clean.
The Oclean brush comes with two heads in the box, offering flexibility with the type of brush you use. There is a Plaque Control brush head, which includes DuPont Diamond bristles and a tongue scraper. Not sure why the type of bristles is mentioned but Oclean seems to think it’s significant so it probably is – I’ll ask my dentist next time I’m there.

The second brush head in the box is a Delicate Care brush head, which is 20% smaller in size and uses softer bristles for gum protection and the ability to clean hard-to-reach areas more thoroughly.
Also in the box is a charging cable and a charging dock, which can either sit on the bench or be stuck to a wall.
Unfortunately, there is no case for the toothbrush in the review toothbrush box – this was included in both of the other smart toothbrushes I have tested, and if you want to take your toothbrush away with you on holidays, then this protective carry case is essential. There is a more premium model/package that comes with a case but you’ll have to pay a bit more for that version.

Brushing and the app
The toothbrush has a coloured touch screen where you can scroll between three preset brush modes – Sunset Clearout, Sunrise Soothing and Exclusive Mode. Exclusive Mode is where you should be living with this toothbrush.
Simply download the Oclean app, pair the toothbrush with it by following the instructions in the app and then you can program the toothbrush cleaning mode. Whatever cleaning mode you select in the app is what the Exclusive Mode on the brush will perform.
You begin by using the Smart Recommendation in the app to choose your teeth type (eg. smoker, braces, distorted or normal), your personal preference and the whiteness of your teeth. This helps the app decide how best to perform the function/clean mode you select.

Personally, I selected the Gum Care cleaning and found it to be the best gum care cleaning I have ever used on an electric toothbrush. While the teeth felt like they were being well cleaned, the gums themselves felt like they were being looked after. There are also a heap of other programs to choose from, including: Braces cleaning, Travel, Strong cleaning, PostWash sensitivity, Super cleaning, Gentle Teeth Spa, Whitening, and more.

Once you select the program you want, simply scroll the toothbrush display to the Exclusive Mode and start cleaning. As you are cleaning, the toothbrush helps you determine where you are cleaning and how well you are cleaning those areas. Then, when you have finished cleaning, the brush will sync with the app and show which areas you missed.
You then have a very short period where you can continue the clean for the areas missed in the first pass – this icon is displayed on the toothbrush display. If you don’t start the re-clean within a few seconds, you will have to start again from scratch and thus create a new teeth map.
There is no way to be sure you have covered all areas if you do start again, because the map from the continued and second clean is a new map.

As for its accuracy, I’m not convinced. I did teeth cleans where I focused entirely on a single side, and the app said I didn’t clean most of that side, which is wrong. I doubt I will be using this feature in the future. If you are using it to track your kids’ cleaning, then I’m not convinced it will give you an accurate indication of the thoroughness of the clean.
Other smarts include the ability to monitor your brushing habits and recommend fixes to improve the thoroughness of your clean.
As with all Oclean sonic electric toothbrushes, the X Pro Digital will provide up to 30 days of battery life after just 3 hours of charging. It notifies you if the battery is low, giving you time to charge it instead of it just stopping in the middle of a clean.
Like to clean your teeth in the shower? The X Pro Digital is IPX7 waterproof, so you can safely brush your teeth in the bath or shower without fear of it being damaged.

What didn’t I like?
One thing I disliked about the charging solution is the charger. It is a USB-A connection to a microUSB plug – both outdated. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a USB port in the wall of my bathroom, so this USB connection is useless. I used an old phone AC adapter I had hanging around, but you shouldn’t have to provide this yourself, in my opinion. Oclean should include this in the box.
You can also buy yourself a USB-A AC adapter from K-mart for around $10, but once again, this is something you should not have to do. If it were a USB-C connection, they could be forgiven for not including the charger, as most folks use this to charge their phones, but a USB-A to microUSB is not good enough in 2025.

What it did well
We can easily get lost in the weeds when it comes to reviews, looking for all the things wrong with the product, often nitpicking small things that really should not and do not affect us in everyday life. That is the case here.
Although I had issues with the cleaning progress/map in the app and dislike the Oclean microUSB charging solution, we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that the Oclean X Pro Digital Sonic Electric Toothbrush is excellent at what it needs to be good at – cleaning your teeth.
The app may say otherwise, but I found the cleaning to be very thorough and yet still gentle on the gums, essential for all you younguns out there and for us old folks who have destroyed gums by cleaning too harshly over the years. For this reason, I will continue to use it – my dentist will be pleased.
The ability to customise your teeth cleaning is essential because everyone needs something different for their cleaning routine. This toothbrush does that exceptionally well, and for that reason, I can recommend this to virtually all and sundry.

Final thoughts
The Oclean X Pro Digital Sonic Electric Toothbrush excels at the various brushing styles and programs provided. The soft, gum-reserving cleans did just that with a gentleness on the gums that I have not experienced with my other electric toothbrushes. There are a multitude of different programs to choose from for whatever you are after.
The app offers insights into your brushing technique and how it can be improved, which is incredibly handy, even at my ripe old age. If you are looking for an electric toothbrush that has some smarts but can adapt to you and your mouth, then this is for you.
