Australians are at an inflection point when it comes to embracing AI-powered PCs. The hardware is here, on the shelves and in adverts, but understanding their potential remains limited. Most consumers don’t yet grasp what an AI PC is, or how it can enhance their day-to-day lives.
Globally, AI-equipped PCs are already making waves: Canalys estimated that AI-capable PCs made up roughly 18% of all PC shipments in 2024, with numbers projected to nearly double in 2025, reaching about 40% of the market. Adoption of AI by businesses is accelerating in Australia: 37% of SMEs, 52% of businesses overall, and up to 90% among Governance Institute respondents have integrated AI to some extent.
Yet, despite the hardware being in shoppers’ hands, the “AI PC” label hasn’t landed. Many are simply upgrading for better battery and performance, features powered by AI under the hood, without realising it.
Retail feedback is unanimous: what stands between curiosity and adoption is understanding. Consumers today discuss battery life and real-world performance, not RAM or storage. This aligns with global observations: reviewers say that smarter resource management in AI PCs is enabling phenomenal battery life, with some lasting nearly 24 hours on a single charge, thanks to on-device Neural Processing Units (NPUs).
Intel’s survey adds that 87% of global businesses are already transitioning to AI PCs, yet widespread adoption is hampered by concerns over training, security, and trust. In consumer circles, uptake will follow once the usefulness of AI features is clearly communicated.
At ASUS, we’re proud to be the first to bring a full Copilot+ PC lineup to Australia. We cover every price tier from entry-level Chromebook alternatives to ultra-light OLED Zenbooks and high-performance creator machines. This range ensures that there’s an AI PC ready for every type of consumer.
Our retail partners report that once users experience an unprompted AI capability, such as Copilot doing more with less, or smarter photo editing, they begin to grasp the real power of AI. This moment of discovery, often post-purchase, turns curious buyers into ambassadors.
Several forces are aligning:
Traditional specs are fading in shops. Today’s shoppers ask: “Does it last all day?” and “Can it keep up?” That’s why ASUS focuses on delivering OLED displays and ultra-efficient NPU-powered performance. Battery life now consistently outranks RAM in purchase conversations.
AI PCs are not the future; they are already here. But the turning point isn’t driven by specs or hype; it’s driven by understanding.
For ASUS, the mission is clear:
Australians are ready. The technology is ready. Now it’s time to close the education gap, or the experience gap, and that’s where real adoption begins. It’s definitely exciting to be a part of this historic adoption.
