Ever wanted to watch the Footy in the backyard to enjoy the day instead of being cramped inside? Perhaps you’re into Camping or Caravanning and are worried about missing out on your favourite shows? A portable TV is what you want and I’ve been testing the Monster 32 inch Smart TV available at SuperCheap Auto.

For $399 you can probably get a 40 inch TV for your home, but if you want to take it camping, or into the back yard you’re either going to need a long extension cord or one of those large portable batteries.

Running WebOS the TV comes with a range of apps like Stan, Netflix, Apple TV+ and Disney+, but I was able to install Kayo Sports nice and quick so I could watch live sports.

There’s no inbuilt 4G/5G here, but pair it with your phone hotspot and you’re streaming!

With two USB ports you could watch saved video content, or off the three HDMI ports you could enable anything from a gaming console to a set top box.

The biggest issue with this TV is it’s processor – it’s slow to turn on, and the menu responsiveness is likewise laggy. However, if you know that going in, you’re expectations aren’t holding you back. And in reality, you’re turning this on to watch a show or game, this isn’t a TV you’re flicking around the menus of.

Battery life is around 4-5 hours and you can keep tabs on battery status with the indicator on the back panel.

A simple metal handle comes in the box so you can literally take it anywhere, or it can be mounted if you’re using it a Caravan for example.

Given my love for the LG StanbyMe Go (Suitcase TV) I knew this would be a fun unit to have. Honestly, I don’t NEED it, but just chilling out the back watching TV is such a great thing but in reality this is made for your outdoors types with a 4WD, tent or caravan out on the weekends enjoying life not wanting to miss the big game.

Oh, and can you imagine how many of these you’ll see at the top of the Mountain at Bathurst in October?
