XBox fans have been screaming for years for a portable Xbox, and with the launch today of the ASUS ROG XBox ALLY and ROG XBox ALLY X, the reality is finally there.

The mobile handheld gaming systems start from $999 AUD for the ROG Xbox ALLY in White through major retailers, while the ROG Xbox ALLY X starts at $1599 and is exclusive to JB Hi-Fi & through the ASUS eShop.

The new ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox ALLY X are Windows 11 based devices, with Microsoft including a new immersive Xbox full screen experience on both systems that’s designed to be more user-friendly and optimise the system for gaming.

As Windows 11 based systems, you can install all the PC games on Xbox Game Pass – which Microsoft has re-jigged just prior to launch – directly to your ROG Xbox ALLY, as well as stream games through Microsoft’s xCloud service.

The handhelds have premium hardware including the ‘Xbox’ button, for faster access to Microsoft’s Xbox services, and new redesigned controller grips based on Microsoft’s Series controllers – and after a hands-on last week, they’re incredibly comfortable to hold.

You also get a 7” FHD resolution display in 16:9 aspect ratio with 120Hz refresh rate and are powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 APU, with DDR5 memory and M.2 2280 SSD storage.
