In a blow for convenience, online delivery company Menulog have announced they will shutdown their operations later this month.

The announcement from parent company ‘justeattakeway.com’ says they will cease taking orders as of midnight, the 26th of November.

The Menulog brand was first started in Australia in 2006, serving up deliveries of food and drinks before being purchased by JustEatTakeaway.com in 2015.

The announcement cites a ‘focus on accelerating growth and investments in other markets’ as a reason for the exit, also stating they have had to navigate ‘challenging circumstances’ during their 20 year history in Australia.

Unfortunately this will affect 120 Menulog employees in Australia, though no mention of the thousands of gig workers who powered the every day deliveries across Australia – however UberEats or DoorDash are still offering their services throughout most of the country.

The exit isn’t new for food delivery companies, with Foodora and Deliveroo previously announcing they were exiting the Australian market over the last few years.

It stings that an Aussie startup will no longer exist here, and I for one will miss the random celebrities spruiking food delivery in catchy commercials.
