Samsung’s Galaxy A Series proves you don’t need to spend big on a great smartphone

While Samsung’s premium Galaxy S and foldable Galaxy Z phones grab the headlines each year, the reality is many Australians are buying something far more practical. The Galaxy A Series has quietly become one of Samsung’s biggest volume sellers – behind the S Flagship of course, offering solid performance at a much more affordable price.

The latest additions to the range, the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57, arrive in early April and sit alongside the already available Galaxy A17 as options for anyone who simply wants a reliable phone without spending flagship money.

For many people, that is exactly what they need.

Good, better, best within the A Series

Samsung’s lineup has long followed a simple formula. The S Series represents the best of the best, packed with every feature imaginable. The A Series focuses on delivering the core smartphone experience at a lower cost.

Within the A Series itself, the same structure applies. The Galaxy A17 sits as the entry point, the A37 steps things up, and the A57 offers the strongest performance of the group.

Importantly, the differences are mostly about refinement rather than fundamental capability. All three phones will comfortably handle everyday tasks like email, social media, messaging, casual gaming and photography.

Subtle differences between the A37 and A57

At first glance, the Galaxy A37 and A57 are extremely similar devices. The design language is consistent across both models, with near identical camera layouts and colour options that are only subtly different.

The A57 does feature a more premium metal frame, but visually you would be hard pressed to pick them apart in daily use.

Where the A57 edges ahead is performance tuning, with improvements designed to make everyday tasks feel smoother. Samsung has also focused on reducing the lag when switching between camera modes or capturing images quickly, a small change that contributes to a more polished experience.

Both phones feature a 50 megapixel main camera with improvements to low light photography and HDR video capture, ensuring solid results for everyday photos and videos.

Useful AI features without the hype

Artificial intelligence features are present, but not overwhelming. Instead, Samsung has focused on practical tools that quietly improve results.

Features like Best Face help combine multiple group photos to ensure everyone is looking their best, while Auto Trim simplifies video editing by selecting key moments automatically.

These are helpful additions, but they are unlikely to be the sole reason someone chooses one model over the other.

Big battery life and bright displays

Both the Galaxy A37 and A57 include a large 5,000mAh battery, which Samsung says can deliver up to two days of typical use.

Displays also remain a highlight, with Super AMOLED panels offering strong brightness and colour. The A57 steps things up slightly with a Super AMOLED+ display, though both devices offer a strong viewing experience for the price.
