Last night DJI unveiled the DJI Power 1000 Mini, their latest power station. The new DJI Power 1000 Mini is half the size of the company’s current 1000Wh power station and is optimised for “high efficiency power”, lasting longer than the DJI Power 1000, even though they are the same size batteries.
Weighing just 11.5kg, the DJI Power 1000 Mini measures 314 × 212 × 216 mm. It features two AC output ports, one USB-C output port, one retractable USB-C cable, two USB-A ports, an SDC port, and an AC input port.

How is it in real-world use?
I use a different branded power station every single day at work. I need to keep my X-ray machine, laptop and digital X-ray detectors charged to maximise my efficiency. The power station I use is only 500Wh, compared to the DJI Power 1000 Mini’s 1000Wh.
Strangely enough, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is about the same size as the brand I have that is half the capacity. My boss has the same-capacity model (different brand), and it is much bigger and heavier than this new DJI power station.
I charge everything with a power board, so I only need to use one AC port. Simply turn the power station on, then click the AC button to turn the power supply on. It will then draw the power required to charge your devices.

The display on the front of the power station shows the charging speed of the devices in real time. At the same time, you can charge your smartphone using the station’s retractable USB-C cable. The USB-C cable will draw up to 100W but will NOT affect the AC port’s output. The retractable cable is a great idea – you do not need to take your charger or any cable with you, and you’ll be just fine.
There is also an SDC port that you can use to charge the power station with the help of your compatible DJI charging solutions such as the DJI Power Car Battery Charging Cable, DJI Power Car Power Charging Cable or a DJI Power MC4 Solar Power Charging Cable. The SDC port can also be used to fast-charge your DJI drones.
Another addition is the bar-shaped LED light at the bottom of the power station, so you can see your plugs and ports as required in all lighting conditions.

The app makes the DJI Power 1000 Mini even better. The app connects to the power station via Bluetooth and shows you the remaining battery percentage, the input sources and speeds, and the output ports and speeds.
What I love here is that you can turn the ports on or off remotely, so if you want to stop it charging for a while, you can, or if you forget to start it when you plug it in, you can do that as well – this is my main use case, as I often forget.
Interestingly, the DJI Power 1000 Mini’s efficiency is so high that it seems I am getting well over 1000Wh out of it. My usual 500Wh power station will last me nearly 3 days, but this 1000Wh power station from DJI lasted 5 days and still had 32% battery left. My maths may fail me, but all things being equal, it seems the DJI gets an extra 30Wh per day —or, to put it another way, loses 30Wh less due to inefficiency than my other power station does. This was confirmed when DJI sent out the press release earlier today and mentioned the increased efficiency.

I’m not sure where this efficiency gain is — it is possibly a combination of battery technology and noise/power from fans, etc. My other power station is really noisy but the DJI you cannot hear at all. I am just speculating, but in a nutshell, it is much quieter and much more efficient.
Once the power station is empty, you can simply plug the power station back into your energy source, and it will charge using its fast-charge capabilities. Using a standard wall plug, it charged from 0% to full in just over an hour. DJI said in the press release that it takes 58 minutes to go from 0% to 80%—mine took only about 65 minutes to go from 0% to full. DJI say this should take 75 minutes but it did not for me.
Combining its tiny size with a 1000Wh capacity and app capabilities, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is ideal for workers on the go, out and about, or on a remote job site.

Final thoughts
The DJI Power 1000 Mini is smaller than similar-capacity power stations, more efficient, and will last longer. Combine this with a weight of just 11.5kg and you have a great portable power station, capable of charging all the things. I’m going to ask my boss to buy me one, I’m very impressed with it.
The DJI Power 1000 Mini is now available for order from store.dji.com and authorised retail partners. Retailing at $799 AUD, DJI will offer limited-time promotional pricing at launch on store.dji.com/au and other select retailers.
