We’ve been reporting on the latest in TV technology for a very long time, but in 2026 the shift toward RGB backlighting is a fundamental game-changer for the industry and one every single brand is competing to lead. This year, Samsung has moved away from some traditional areas and is shifting it’s focus to highlight their own Micro RGB technology while also upping the game on OLED.

Samsung has been a leader in TVs for decades, but with a new technology in the market they need to ensure they are part of the change and ready for all market expectations.

This week I checked out the new range of Samsung TVs locally here in Australia having seen a preview in Las Vegas at CES.

What’s clear to me – in my own observations, is that Samsung is shifting their premium TV focus from Neo QLED and 8K into Micro RGB and OLED.

The complete lineup of TVs from Samsung this year does not feature an 8K model. While 8K isn’t really a huge loss, it does signal a shift away from an area they had been leading for five or more years now. Likewise their Neo QLED TVs while still part of the lineup, are no longer the premium option.

Then, at the same time, there’s a huge range of OLED models coming from Samsung too. Some 15 different TVs across three model types – this is a direct attack on LG’s dominance of the OLED market here in Australia.

Critically though Samsung aren’t just offering up a product and backing their brand as the justification to buyers. Samsung is focussed on Australian homes.

They are offering their Glare Free finish across their best Frame TV, best Micro RGB models and two of the three OLED ranges. Plus, their Wireless One Connect box is default with the Frame Pro but is an optional extra on their premium OLED and Micro RGB models.

Samsung is offering 50% more Glare Free TVs than last year, as well as expanding their “Art TV” options across all their premium TVs.

And if you don’t think size matters, why is Samsung offering 50% more ultra-large screens than last year.

Simon Howe, Director – Visual Display, Samsung Australia says “We’ve observed Australians are increasingly multi-tasking when watching TV, with Samsung consumer insights revealing half of Australians pick up another devices while watching their TV to answer questions on their mind3. Who is this actor? What city is this scene filmed in? Understandably, frustration sets in when they feel like they have missed a plot point while distracted4. With Vision AI Companion, Australians curiosity is addressed, as answers to questions will pop up to the side of the TV display, providing relevant information without disrupting the program.”

“We are proud to continually redefine display innovation and have brought the world’s first series of Micro RGB TVs as a new chapter in immersive home cinema experiences. Micro RGB is designed to bring Australians closer to the content they are passionate about via exceptional lifelike colour – from movies, to sport, gaming and art.

On a big screen, every detail is elevated, and with Samsung’s Glare-Free technology, Australians can enjoy distraction-free content in any viewing environment. By combining advanced RGB control with Vision AI Companion, we’re delivering a viewing experience that feels more natural, more engaging and tailored to the way Australians watch and connect at home.”

Why Choose Micro RGB?

Having stood in front of these TVs now, and seen them side by side with OLED, the answer is all about Colour.

Micro RGB is creating more colours, so if you think of all the shades of blue you can see on a scale, then up until now a TV like a Mini LED TV has only been able to reproduce about 45% of those shades. Micro RGB means it’s producing 75% of the colour shades the human eye can see.

It’s not about being brighter, it’s about seeing more colour. Even next to an OLED there’s a vast difference, and the Micro RGB still offers a sensational level of contrast over and above previous LED technologies – but not quite that of OLED.

Which is why Samsung has a foot in each corner of this one. If Contrast is what matters, OLED panels are ready to buy!

Big, very Big TVs

While we know Samsung is going to 130 inches this year what’s really important is the range of mega TVs.

If we think of 75 inches as a big-screen, then Samsung has TWENTY FOUR different TVs to choose from. That’s more than 46% of the TV models Samsung has on the market this year.

Samsung’s advantage in 2026

Honestly, this one is easy. Glare Free.

The coating on Samsung’s premium TV’s (MR95F Micro RGB, Frame Pro and OLED S95h and S90H) diffuses all the light so you don’t see a reflection. You do see the brighter area, but its so diffused it doesn’t come close to interfering with the picture. This is a different approach to LG who reduce the reflection and do not diffuse the light.

Personally, I’d take the diffused Glare Free every day of the week, it’s ideal for the Aussie home.

Sounding great.

In addition to their TV range, Samsung has a complete range of Soundbars, but also their new Music Studio speakers which offer a rich and strong sound and can be paired with a TV or just used as single or multi-room speakers.
