One in every six cars sold in April was an EV – still think it’s a fad folks? Nope. And the second biggest car brand in Australia last month? BYD. Yep, the shift is happening.

Of course, these figures are “fuelled” by the crisis in Petrol supply and while that has steadied the fact is everyday Aussies now know how volatile those bowser prices can be and are looking keenly at Electric Vehicles.

The numbers don’t lie.

Year on year, there’s some big stories here.

Zeekr grew from 58 sales last April to 1,006 this year, while Geely had a 519% growth from 324 sales to 2006.

BYD is up 140% year on year too!

We’ll add to these figures or correct them as we analyse them – but no question, a big month for EVs.

My suspicion is that May will be a bit down for EVs as supply struggles kick in, but they will surge again in June and July.
