Ring has announced a new device in its smart home security lineup, the Ring Intercom, designed to help you never miss a delivery again.

The new device allows folks living in apartments with their compatible intercoms to have “enhanced control and visibility over their building entrance.”  The Ring Intercom allows users to see and speak to those at their building’s entrance and then provide remote access to them from anywhere.

Ring Intercom puts control of the entrance to your building in the palm of your hand.  Features include Live Video View, Two-Way Talk and the ability to grant access to visitors from the Ring app.  Using an Echo Show device makes monitoring and communicating even easier.

The idea of the Ring Intercom is to reduce missed deliveries by granting couriers temporary access to leave your parcel inside the building.  The new device will automatically record images of each intercom buzz using Visitor Snapshot, and the 180-day video history allows these videos to be saved for extended periods.

Quick Replies have also been included to provide automatic, preset short replies if you are unavailable to answer the intercom yourself, telling the buzzer where to leave a package or when you’ll be back. As with all Ring products, DIY installation is incredibly simple.

Ring Intercom is available starting today for AU$189.  Some of the above features require a Ring Protect subscription plan.  To check your building’s compatibility, head over here.
