At IFA in Berlin Samsung has announced an update to it’s Bixby voice assistant with an enhanced AI allowing more complex commands and better comprehension, and even device diagnostic help when there’s an issue.

Jeremy Senior, Vice President of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Australia says “At Samsung, we believe that the power of a connected home goes beyond convenience – it’s about creating meaningful experiences that enhance the quality of everyday life for Australians,”

“With the enhanced AI capabilities of Bixby in our home appliances, we’re making it easier for consumers to interact with their devices, allowing them to control their home environment with personalised commands. This advancement underscores our commitment to innovation that truly resonates with consumers, enabling them to live smarter, more efficient lives.”

This enhancement, says Samsung, is in addition to the AI featured launched this year such as the AI Vision in the Family Hub Fridge which can detect food items going in and out of the fridge. Bixby will now understand what in the AI Voice world are called Multi-intent commands, where you ask it to do several things in one command.

This allows for a more natural style of language to be used when talking to Bixby devices.

There’s also past conversation context, so if you’re asking about a dinner recipe you can follow up with a washing machine command based on the time that recipe takes to cook – for example.

In addition to all that, if there’s something not quite right with your appliance, you can ask Bixby to help. let’s say an Error code appears on the screen, ask Bixby what it means.
