At PAX Aus in Melbourne, SteamDeck maker Valve has officially announced the handheld gaming console is now on-sale in Australia.
The presence of the SteamDeck maker at PAX Aus fuelled rumours of the launch, with the rumours proving true this morning. Valve will sell the SteamDeck directly to Australians, with no retail partnerships announced. Units will begin shipping to Australian customers in November, though you can wishlist it now on the SteamDeck website which is displaying the news:
For those who don’t know – the SteamDeck gives you access to your library of Steam games on the go. There’s three models available, one with an LCD panel, and two with an OLED display – with all three powered by the same AMD APU and 16GB of DDR5 RAM.
The entry model offers a very basic set of specs including a 40Whr battery, 256GB of storage and 7” LCD display for just $649.
The OLED models offer more premium options including Wi-Fi 6E support, 50WHr battery and a choice of either 512GB of storage for $899, or 1TB for $1,049. The highest end model also includes an anti-glare covering on the display, as well as a Steam profile bundle which includes a startup movie and keyboard theme.
The SteamDeck will receive full warranty support for one year directly from Valve, a big bonus over the grey imports that the SteamDeck has previously been available through.
